Biomass Pyramid

In an energy pyramid, the Energy
is the largest at the bottom. Each level
loses a tenth of the energy from the
level before it. The bottom level are
producers or in this example, grass.
Producers have the most energy.
Then as the grass is consumed, only
1/10 is passed on to the next level
which are primary consumers. The
same goes for when secondary
consumers eat the primary consumers
except they get 1/10 of the primary
consumers energy. Then the tertiary
consumer gets one tenth of the
secondary consumer's energy.

The diagram to the left demonstrates how energy is lost. Like the biomass pyramid, the energy is passed from top to bottom and energy is lost as it moves its way up the pyramid. Also like the biomass pyramid, the energy pyramid starts with producers and goes up to top carnivores.
Pyramid of Numbers

"Pyramid of numbers is the graphic representation of number of individuals per
unit area of various trophic levels stepwise with producers forming the base and
top carnivores the tip". As seen before in the previous pyramids, the numbers decrease as you move further up the pyramid.
